    Roots in Germany

    Johanna’s Family Heritage

Johanna’s parents, Barbara and Wilhelm Weishaupt, were born in Poing and Heimstetten near Munich. They farmed in Bavaria, growing sugar beets, wheat, barley, and oats, and continued raising cows and pigs after taking over the family operation.

Their dedication to hard work and responsible land stewardship laid the foundation for a multigenerational farming tradition.

    Ulrich’s Family Heritage

Ulrich’s parents, Anna Schulte-Wrede and Walter Hundt, were born in Rinsecke and Olpe, both in North Rhine-Westphalia.

Raised on the family farm, Ulrich’s early connection to agriculture laid the foundation for his lifelong commitment. His journey later expanded through experiences abroad, where he gained further insights into farming and rural life.

    Shared Beginning

    Building a Life in Agriculture

Johanna, born in Munich, and Ulrich, born in Petersberg, eventually found in each other both a partnership and a shared devotion to farming.

They married, worked together on family land in Germany, and raised their children Barbara, Juliane, and Christoph - born across Lower Saxony, Hesse, and North Rhine-Westphalia. What began as two separate family histories in German agriculture grew into one shared vision: to build a meaningful life from the land and create something lasting for future generations.

    New Start in Canada

    Planting New Roots in Ontario

In 1995, Ulrich and Johanna immigrated to Canada with their children to build a new future. Southwestern Ontario became home.

The family purchased their first farm and put their combined experience to work, embracing the challenges of a new country, new crops, and a new beginning.

    Building a Family Farm Together

    Family, Community, and Hard Work

As the farm grew over time, relatives from Germany came to help during peak seasons. The farm also welcomed German agricultural students who worked and lived on the farm, gaining work experience while contributing to the operation. These relationships continue to this day.

    The Next Generation

    Passing the Torch

In 2015, Ulrich and Johanna’s son Chris joined the farm’s management, bringing both tradition and fresh perspective.

With a Production Agriculture diploma from Ridgetown College and a degree in Applied Sciences (Agribusiness) from Olds College, he returned with valuable experience and new ideas.

    Our Farm Today

    Current Operations

Hundt Farms specializes in corn, winter wheat, and identity preserved and food-grade soybeans. We also operate our own grain storage, handling, and drying facilities, with over 7000 tonnes of total storage across two locations.

To strengthen long-term stability and manage risk, the farm expanded into poultry production in 2018.
